Thank you for your interest in initiatives of the Outreach Committee of the Hindu Society of Minnesota (HSMN).
Although the outreach and philanthropic efforts were always a part of the activities of the Hindu Society of Minnesota, an Outreach Committee was officially formed in the year 2009.
Ever since its inception, the Outreach Committee has carried out following activities:
Yearly 2-3 visits to serve meals at the homeless shelters, such as Sharing & Caring Hands and House of Charity, located in downtown Minneapolis.
Annual Toys Drive and Gently-used-winter-coats Drive during the Holiday Season.
Fund Raising efforts to support countries around the world who have been hit by natural disaster-the Haiti Earthquake (2009), Uttarkhand earthquake (2013), Nepal earthquake (2015), Chennai Flood Relief (2015)
Volunteering at Feed My Starving Children in the years 2012 and 2015.
Future projects for the year 2016 include:
Institution of Annual Service Day- Tentative date: 9/11/2016. We plan to conduct Blood donation drive at the Hindu Society of Minnesota premises with the help of American Red Cross. This would help the community to continue paying their respects to the victims of 9/11.
Arrange for two visits to the transitional facility - Mary’s Place, Minneapolis, to spend time with the children there and inculcate the values of self-confidence and good citizenry.
Providing guidance and support to Bhutanese Refugees. The primary objective is reach out and mentor Bhutanese youths with resume workshop & internship opportunities etc.
Serve as a center for collecting school supplies to support the Swaravedika Global Exchange Project’s efforts to provide free school supplies to the underprivileged children in India.
